Celebrating World Environment Day Virtually

Every year students of Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara celebrate World Environment Day with various activities aimed at creating awareness about our environment.  This year, the celebrations began with rendition of the environmental crusader, Sugathakumari’s poem, ‘Nangal Lokathe Enthu Cheythu’ by Rohit Ramesh of X C in the morning online assembly.  This was followed by selected students of classes I – XII presenting a speech and PowerPoint in their respective classes on this year’s theme – REIMAGINE RECREATE RESTORE.

An online webinar aimed at educating and inspiring students to take action to protect the environment was arranged for students of classes IX and X.  The resource person, Dr Giby Kuriakose, Assistant Professor and HOD, Department of Botany, S H College, Thevara, spoke to the students about restoration of the ecosystem and actions one can take to prevent, halt and reverse the degradation of ecosystems.  The webinar also served to create awareness about the different kinds of orchids found around the world, their vulnerability and need to conserve them.  

The SEED Club initiated ‘VIBING VERDANT Hug-A-Tree’ campaign, encouraging students to connect with nature by cloaking them in a loving embrace and clicking a photograph.
