The Academic Year- 2020-2021 has been exceptionally uncommon and at the same time eventful for all of us.  When the world set new norms and normals, we tried to conquer it with synergy and diligence. Looking back, we see with great clarity that what once appeared as difficulties now reveal themselves as achievements. With immense pride and satisfaction, I present this Annual Report for the academic year 2020 – 2021.


Development of self along with academic achievement forms the nucleus of all learning processes at school. Our achievements in Academics is a true reflection of the diligence and sincere efforts of our students in the CBSE examinations. The school secured 100% results in Std  X and XII Board Examination for the Academic Year 2019-2020.

Out of the191 students who appeared for the AISSCE, 33 bagged A1 in all subjects and 169 students secured distinction. Anand R with 97.2% , Gowri J with 98.6% and Saumyasree T M with 97.6% brought laurels to the school with their outstanding performance in the Humanities, Commerce and Science streams respectively.

Of the193 students who appeared for the AISSE , 178 students secured distinction and 36 students bagged A1 in all subjects. Devadutt Mohan was the topper with 99.2%.


The present student strength from Classes I to XII is 2725 with 123 teaching and 16 non teaching staff members.

To hone the skills and talents in students, they are divided into eight houses. Intramural activities and competitions were held in connection with various important day celebrations.

The school parliament comprising representatives from each section of Std. III to XII was headed by Senior Head Boy Sahadev S Kumar, Senior Head Girl Karisma Sherlith and Senior Sports Captain Manas Santhosh.

The resource room facility, for students identified with different abilities, is functioning well under the stewardship of 5 specially trained teachers and a professional counsellor and at present the needs of 71 such students from Class I to VIII are being catered to commendably. Our school is also an accredited centre of the National Institute of Open Schooling with a strength of 57 students from classes IX to XII.

The school library is stocked with 16582 books and new books are added every year. Our school library is now a member of National Digital Library of India. Teachers as well as the students have been enrolled as registered members of NDLI.

The First PTA Executive Committee Meeting  was held virtually at the beginning of the Academic Year 2020-’21 with the Committee members of 2019 -2020 continuing in office for this academic year too.

2 Online Parent Teacher meetings each, for Classes I - XII were held in the months of July and November.

This year the school witnessed a profusion of activities even in the constraints of this pandemic.


Our school achieved commendable positions in inter school competitionsand fests conducted by Bhavans Adarsha Vidyalaya, Bhavans Varuna Vidyalaya , Rajagiri Christu Jayathi and Chinmaya Vidyalaya.

Our school has also won theThird position in Haritha Vidyalayam Contest 2019-’20 organized by Mathrubhumi SEED Club in association with Federal Bank, with a cash prize of Rs.5000, ‘Special Mention’ Award in the Best Heritage Club Award 2019-’20 and an award for contributing Maximum Number of Films in INTACH FILM FESTIVAL 2021 hosted by Young Intach Heritage Club.

The school also received a certificate of recognition for successfully organizing the Fit India School Week - 2020.

Ms. Sumi U Menon,Teacher, Department of Biology, emerged Kerala Regional Topper and Subject Topper at National Level in CENTA Teaching Professionals’ Olympiad  2019 , a unique National level Competition for teachers.

Ms. Ganga Varma R and Ms Maya Moneykumar of the Computer Science Department were honoured with Teachers’ Day Awards 2020 by IIHM.

Ms Jayasree L - HoD, Physics Dept, creditably completed the online courses the STEM ‘MOOCS Package’,  ‘Integrated STEM Teaching for Secondary Schools’ and  the ‘Digitally Competent Teachers for Creative Digital Students’ which were conducted by European Schoolnet Academy, Brussels.  She was chosen to present the STEM Lab.

Ms Jiji George, of the Physics Dept., was awarded the Certificate of appreciation for scoring more than 80% in the Wildlife and Natural quiz organized by Dept. Of Museums and Zoos, Govt. Of Kerala.

Teachers  Ms.Divya C M, Ms Rakhi K R ,and  Ms. Angitha C S secured more than 80 marks and received Exemplary Achievement Award in the National Level NEP Quiz organized by Centre for Educational Initiative and Research Global Trust.

Ms. Reshmi P Raju, Ms. Bindu K and Ms. Sangeetha Srinivas  received  medals and certificates in the category- ‘Prominent Videos’ in the PCM Online Teachers’ Award 2020 contest.

Ms. Vibitha Babu  received a Letter of Appreciation from CBSE for her contribution as Creator of Content under CBSE DIKSHA LIVE.

Our teachers successfully participated and received certificates in My Gov Pariksha Pe Charcha Contest 2021 and they have also received certificates of completion in courses on Experiential Learning and Competency Based Learning being conducted by DIKSHA Portal.

And now over to student achievements-

Sarang L.V. of class VI  won the 1st Rank at state level and 6th Rank at the national level in the 6th National Level Sanskrit Olympiad 2020.

Adarsh Saju of Std X secured 6th place in the event JMT at Shaastra Juniors 2020 conducted by IIT Madras.

The team comprising 3 students of Std VIII- Vivek P. Menon , Sneha Annmaria Sibi, Niharika Rajesh &  Aaditya Vivek of Std X were awarded the prize for the ‘Food Heritage Challenge’ in Young Intach’s Social Media challenge.

Ananya K of Std X & Abhirami S of Std  IX  won the   ‘Best Entry’ Award in Young Intach ‘Ancient Architecture’ category.

Akash Biju of Std VII won the coveted  Gem of Seed Award instituted by Mathrubhumi SEED Club, for his invaluable contributions in the protection of the environment. He is the sole recipient of this award in Ernakulam District.

John Joseph of Std VIII and Rhea Ann Roy of  Std X participated in the online interactive session organised by Mathrubhumi Seed Club as part of Doctors Day Celebrations. They interacted with the eminent cardiologist Dr. Jose Chacko Periyappuram.

Pranav A Menon of XII earned for himself a slot to interact with the famous Indian Naval officer Mr.Abhilash Tomy on  World Ocean Day 2020 (June 8).

Pranav K Manoj emerged  the state topper in Mridangam  and also won  the second prize  in vocal music at the prestigious All Kerala BSS Swarapoorna Lower Level Exam 2021 and Nila Prabakumar won the third prize in vocal music at the same exam.

The following students have won various positions in the Patriotic song  competition conducted by Vivekananda Kendra Vedic Vision Foundation :-
 Poornima K Manoj(Cat. I,First Prize ), Pranav K Manoj (Cat. II, Second Prize), Geethanjali R Vani(Cat. II, Second Prize) and Nila Prabakumar(Cat II, Third Prize)

43 students of Std XI were awarded Certificate of Merit by ‘Shikshan Bharati’ BVB for their meritorious performance in AISSE 2020

In the Bhavan’s Scholarship Exam conducted in the Academic Year 2019-20, Abhinav Vipin, Gayatri R and Chethana R Nair secured first rank ; Fiza Faisal, Sarang L V, Lekshmypriya S B and Akash Shaji secured second rank and 46 students secured distinctions.

The NCC Wing at school has 50 cadets. 22 new cadets joined the troop this year. 28 second year cadets appeared for the ‘A’ Certificate Examination which was conducted in our school. They were part of the various celebrations held in connection with the important days.

Uphaaradhyuti – The Annual Merit Evening 2020 was held on 19th August to felicitate the toppers of AISSCE and AISSE 2020.

As part of Fit India Movement, the school organized FIT India Freedom Run in the month of October and The 2nd edition of “Fit India School Week” celebrations were held in the month of December. The school witnessed active participation from both parents and children in these programmes.

The school organized ‘Mangala Samstava:’on 6th January - a special function    to felicitate Adv. Anilkumar, the newly elected Mayor of the Corporation of Kochi and an Alumni of the school. As the District training co-ordinator
Senior Principal  Smt.Sunitha S conducted an  online session for COE Thiruvananthapuram on Art Education (AE) and Art Integrated Learning (AIL) 2020-  Guidelines for Usage of CBSE Kalasethu Portal , on  12th February . Principals, Vice Principals and teachers from various  schools in Ernakulam participated  in  the  workshop.

The 27th Edition of Pratheeksha, the Annual Inter-school Fest, organized by the students of Std XI  was conducted on 17th and 18th February. This year it was conducted virtually as MUN 2021  which was inaugurated by the renowned Career Diplomat and  Former Indian Ambassador to the Netherlands, Ambassador Venu Rajamony. Around 90 students schools across the city from participated in the event.

Observance of National and International Important Days were held in a befitting manner. Festivals too were celebrated enthusiastically within the  limitations imposed by the pandemic.

 Bhavan’s Alumni Webinar Series was conducted in connection with various important day celebrations:

The 1st Edition of the series was held in connection with Reading Day on ‘Of Stories and Storytellers’ led by Miss. Devika V, which was followed by a session on ‘Better Knowledge for Better Care’ by Sri. Girish Ananth, on International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking The 3rd edition was a web panel discussion on Independence Day with Sanjay Suresh, Nikhitha Maria Joseph, Mohammed Afzal Rafiq, George M Jayesh and Parvathy Menon on the topic ‘Freedom to Think, Choose, Act and Speak’. The 5th edition of the Bhavan’s Alumni Webinar Series was held on 31st October on the topic UNICEF: - AN INSIDER’S INSIGHTS by Ms Anuradha Narayan - Chief of Health, Nutrition and WASH, UNICEF China Office .

A Teacher Talk Time on the topic ‘Know Your School Better’ was organized on 28th January for the students of Std V&VI.  Smt Indira Menon and Smt. Prema Balagopal, retired teachers of the school, addressed the students and interacted with them.

QuizzoBuzz, an Online Interschool Quiz Series organized by the school quiz club was inaugurated by the Chairman on  which was followed by the debut edition ‘Amor Litterae’. Three more editions were conducted for various classes.

Quiz competitions ‘Smrithi Manjari’  and ‘Republic Day Quizathon’ were conducted for the entire school   in connection with the  133rd Birth Anniversary of Kulapati Dr. K M Munshi and the 72nd Republic Day Celebration respectively.


Sarang L V (VI) emerged First Runner Up in TCS iON IntelliGem 2021, a National-level contest for students of grades 5 to 9.

Adwaith Pai of Std VI A bagged First Prize in the School Category of The Olympic Quiz conducted by Qcompany.

Rhea Raj VI  and Akshay Narayanan VII  participated in Earth Champion Quiz by AIM and UNICEF and won certificates.

Austin Lazar Paramel (XI) secured III Prize in the Hindi Quiz conducted by Cochin Shipyard Limited.

Keerti Manjith and Rhea Ann Roy of Std IXwon the second prize in the Bhavan’s Inter School Science quiz competition held on the National Science Day

Ishitha Praveen X D and Moksha Rao (VIII ) won the Verbal Mention Award of UNHRC in the BMUN held at BVM, Girinagar.

Pranav A Menon (XII) secured a Diplomatic Commendation at HMUN - India Edition held online from 14th  to 16th August.


Nandan B Nair of Std IV won First Position in Under 11 category and Third Position in Under 13 category in the All Kerala Badminton Tournament conducted by GP Badminton Academy.


Sixth International Yoga Day was celebrated on 21st June with yoga sessions both for teachers and students led by our Yoga Teacher Smt .Suseela Gopinathan.

Haleema Kareem of Std VI bagged the Second position in the State Level Sub Junior category Patanjali Yoga online Championship 2020 held in connection with Sixth International Yoga Day.

Our students bagged various positions in  the  Ernakulam District Yoga Championship 2020.

In the State Level Yoga Competitions held on Sept 19, our school was represented by  Yoga teacher Smt. Suseela Gopinathan and 2 students of Std IX  Hussna Kareem and Sruthi Sudhakaran.   


Under the initiative of the SEED Club of the school a charity drive - Dhaan Deepthi, was  organized from 15th to 17th December 2020 aiming at spreading joy and happiness among those who need help and support.The school could collect ample amount of house hold provisions, clothes, toys and organic vegetables.The drive turned out to be a great success with the tremendous  support  extended by  the parents  and students.
The month of December was commemorated as Nature Month by The Mathrubhumi SEED Club of the school . As part of the The Sealeaf Initiative- a venture by SEED Club members , students from various classes planted trees on their premises and they were awarded certificates.

 Our school, in collaboration with Five Point Yoga Centre and Fort Kochi Janamythri Police Force, distributed food kits to the deserving families at Rameswaram Colony, Fort Kochi.

 Lend a hand , Bring a Smile- a venture to acknowledge the service provided by the sanitation workers, students of various classes were encouraged to present a gift such as a thank you card, financial help or house hold provisions. Many students showed their willingness to come forward and do their maximum to help these people who maintain our city clean and beautiful.


 The school hosted the XI All India Conference for Principals of Bhavan’s Secondary and Senior Secondary Schools organised by Bharatiya Vidya  Bhavan, Kochi Kendra. The conference was virtually inaugurated by the Hon. Governor of Kerala, Sri Arif Mohammed Khan.

CBSE’s online teacher training courses to help teachers understand how they can hone their teaching methods on the online mode and improve students’ learning outcomes were conducted by the various CBSE Centres of Excellence.  These mandatory courses were attended by all the teachers with much zeal and fervour.

Principal Smt Sunitha S attended World Education Conference, Online Training on NEP 2021 by CoE Trivandrum, Interaction programme for Presidents and Secretaries of KCSSC on the topic “Role of Schools in Implementing NEP 2020 Recommendations”, The International Education and Skill Summit.

Principal Smt Sunitha S and Vice Principal Smt Sreejyothi N attended a workshop on Experiential Learning conducted by CoE Mumbai and workshops on HET'S School Leadership Program - POISE conducted by Heartfulness Education Trust, NEP 2020 Holistic Progress Card by CoE Chennai, Crisis Management by CoE Trivandrum and  Cyber Security by CoE Delhi West.

They also attended The Awakened Citizen Programme by Ramakrishna Mission along with a few teachers.

 Bhavan’s All India Educational Workshop on NATIONAL EDUCATION POLICY 2020 organized by Bhavan’s Research & Development Centre in association with Shikshan Bharathi was attended by the Principal , Vice Principal and all the teachers. The Chief Guest of the day was Dr.K Kasthurirangan, Chairman of the Drafting Committee on NEP.  

As part of the Faculty Improvement Programme, the teachers attended various subject specific workshops as well as webinars to enable them to promote the holistic development of students.


In order to facilitate the holistic development of children of all classes, various webinars on a variety of topics like Health and Wellness, Nature and its Resources, Good Parenting etc. awareness sessions, motivational talks and interactive sessions with famous personalities from various organizations were arranged during the academic year. A handful of subject specific webinars and career guidance sessions were also arranged for the students of senior secondary.


The inauguration of Atal Tinkering Lab of the school was held on 20th January 2021. Dr Saji Gopinath, Vice Chancellor, Kerala University of Digital Science ,Innovation and Technology inaugurated the lab.

A masterplan for the development of the school’s infrastructure which commenced three years back is progressing in full swing and will take its full shape without further ado.

Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir has always been in the forefront in providing our students  a    plethora  of  opportunities for  the upgradation of  skills and knowledge and it will continue its efforts  to mould many more generations  into  happy, responsible citizens  of the world.

Before concluding this report, I bow my head in reverence to the  Almighty for the blessings He has showered upon this institution. We are indeed blessed to have a very supportive management and I would like to express our sincere thanks to the Chairman, C A Venugopal C Govind, Director, Sri.E Ramankutty  and the Committee Members of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi Kendra who have helped, guided and most importantly encouraged us on all occasions.

May I also take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to the teaching and non-teaching staff, parents, students, PTA Executive Committee Members  and all  other well-wishers for the whole hearted support and cooperation.

As the school’s unprecedented journey in 2020-‘21 is drawing to  a close, let  us all look forward to a fruitful academic year with a new set of  dreams and  aspirations. Optimism is a happiness magnet, a powerful force of reassurance.  So stay positive and be led by the dreams  in your  heart.
