Bhavan's Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara organized the 2nd edition of the Book Barter Challenge - a school social responsibility initiative mooted by the SEED Club of the school. The drive has been conducted for the 2nd consecutive year to sensitise students of the need to be responsible stewards of our planet and encouraging them to do their bit towards attaining UNSDG 12 -Responsible Consumption & Production’ . It provides an opportunity for students to show their concern towards the environment by reusing textbooks.

The students were encouragedto donate used textbooks of this academic year that are in reasonably good condition to the 'Book Bank' on March 23 and 24.

Student volunteers from classes VII and VIII were entrusted with the responsibility for the collection and segregation of textbooks donated and maintaining records of such books

received. The class-wise list of books received were shared with book donors to enable them to know beforehand, the number of textbooks available in each subject for distribution. The 'Book Bank'  was opened on 28th and 29th for the donors to collect their copies of textbooks for the next academic year. Book beneficiaries were encouraged to contribute a nominal sum towards the ‘SSRI Nidhi', which will be utilised for other such initiatives. The parent community who participated in the endeavour pledged full support to the initiative. For the student volunteers, it was a first-hand lesson in understanding the basic aspects of organising such an initiative and recognising the importance of teamwork, collaboration and the importance of an individual's contribution for effective group dynamics. The teacher coordinators played a pivotal role in overseeing all aspects of the initiative. This noble initiative has been well appreciated by the parents as a practice to be continued in the coming years. Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir Elamakkara has once again

reiterated its staunch commitment in promoting green practices.
