Koodiyattam ‘Balivadham’ enchants audience at Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara

As part of the Kerala Piravi celebrations, Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara hosted a captivating Koodiyattam performance titled Balivadham, presented by Rangadhwani – A Centre of Expertise for Koodiyattam.

Balivadham depicts the dramatic episode from the Ramayana that leads to the slaying of Bali, the valiant monkey king, by Rama. The presentation beautifully captured the emotional depth and moral conflict surrounding this episode.

The powerful role of Bali was enacted by Kalamandalam Jishnu Prathap, with Nepathya Yadukrishnan and Kalamandalam Sreelakshmi bringing Sugreeva and Thara to life.Musical accompaniment was provided by Kalamandalam Vijay and Nepathya Aswin on the Mizhavu, and Kalamandalam Sarod on the Idaykka. The Thalam and introduction were presented by Kalamandalam Amritha.

The event was graced by the presence of Sri. E. Ramankutty, Director, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi Kendra, Sri. Rajmohan Varma, Kalabharathi Coordinator, Smt. Mini K, Principal, Smt. Bindu M R and Smt. Sumi Krishnakumar, Vice Principals and Smt. Jyothirmayi P, Assistant Vice Principal. Smt. Sumi Krishnakumar presented a token of appreciation to Kalamandalam Jishnu Prathap on behalf of the school.

The performance offered students a meaningful cultural experience, deepening their appreciation of Kerala’s classical art forms and the timeless values embedded in Indian epics.
