Kathakali
Bhavans Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara, in collaboration with SPIC MACAY Kerala, conducted an informative Kathakali lecture-demonstration to familiarise students with the rich traditions of Kerala's classical performing arts.
The session was led by renowned Kathakali artist Smt. Renjini Suresh, who introduced the students to the unique features of Kathakali, including its elaborate costumes, make-up, navarasas (nine emotions), mudras (hand gestures), and graceful movements.
The main attraction of the programme was the staging of ‘Dakshayagam’, a famous story from Indian mythology. The performance featured Smt. Radhika Ajayan as Daksha, Kumari Malavika Santhosh as Lord Shiva, Kumari Anagha Krishnan as Sati, Smt. Archa Gowri Varma as Veerabhadra, Kumari Indeevara Sreenivasan as Bhadrakali, and Kumari Nirupama Mahesh as the Pooja Brahmin.
The musical accompaniment was provided by RLV Ganesh Paloor and RLV Amarnath, while Kalamandalam Sainathan played the Chenda and Kalamandalam Vishnu performed on the Maddalam. Eroor Manoj was responsible for the Chutti, Kalamandalam Vighnesh handled the costumes and make-up (Chamayam), and Shri Eroor Sudhan coordinated the backstage arrangements.
