It is with immense pleasure that I present the 50th Annual Report of Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara , for the academic year 2022-23. In the aftermath of the online mode of school for the last 2 years, when schools resumed in the offline mode, we are happy that we could invest our best for the holistic development of our students. In keeping with our rich tradition of pursuing perfection, the school has continually striven to transform itself in accordance with the needs of the times. This Annual Report is a compilation of the wide array of achievements, both in the academic and non-academic arenas that have made us proud and all the more responsible.

Golden Jubilee Celebration

 The academic year 2022 -2023  is special for our school which has reached an important milestone – the golden Jubilee of the school.   ‘Suvarnasobha’ the grand event which marked the commencement of the year long Golden Jubilee celebrations was inaugurated on 27 June 2022  by Joint Executive Secretary & Registrar of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Sri Jagdish Lakhani amidst  a more than 2500 strong audience.

New Principal takes over

Smt Sunitha S, the former Senior principal of the school retired from service on 30 June 2022 after which, the new principal Smt Mini K took charge on 1 July. Vice Principal Smt Sreejyothi N was elevated as the Associate Principal & PGT Biology Smt Sumi U Menon was elevated as the Asst Vice Principal, both with effect from 1st July 2022.  

 About the school

 Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara always aspires for new goals each year and strives relentlessly to achieve them. Catering to more than 3000 students, the school has on its rolls 129 teaching and 26 non-teaching staff members and pursues a holistic approach of education in grooming the skills and talents in students.

 Our school is also an accredited centre of  NIOS - National Institute of Open Schooling with a strength of 45  students from classes IX to XII.

 The school library, now a member of the National Digital Library of India, is stocked with as many as 17078 books and the book stock is replenished every year. The virtual library is also a favourite haunt of students.

 The resource room under the stewardship of 5 specially trained teachers and a professional counsellor functions for the benefit of almost 100 students who seek additional support in academics & for the emotional & mental well being of all students.

 The NCC has 50 student members, out of which 32 are boys & 18 are girls.

 The Atal Tinkering lab is an activity hub for students with a scientific and innovative temper to give life to their creative ideas

 The PTA Executive Committee for the year was formed with Smt Sandhya Sasi as the President.  The committee takes a proactive approach to help the school constructively.

 The investiture ceremony of the school parliament was held on 10th June 2022. Senior Head Boy Vignesh Anup Senior Head Girl Kavya. R and Senior Sports Captain Nandana Baiju, Junior Head boy Hayden Jose, Junior Head Girl Malavika Abhishek and the other leaders including house captains took charge as the office bearers of the school Parliament.

 The installation of the office bearers of the Interact Club was held on 10th of October 2022. The inauguration of activities of various clubs was done by noted music composer Sri Bijibal. Efforts to form a full fledged school band is underway.

 Programmes in connection with Golden Jubliee celebrations

      As part of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations  of the school, various interschool events were organised across the year namely inter-school quiz QuizzoBuzz India@75, Natyopasana a 1 day classical dance workshop in August followed by  ‘Arangu’, a two day drama workshop  in September, an inter school Mathematics competition ‘Math Magicae’ in December and the most recent event  Praudyogiki an inter school Tinkering fest  which was held earlier this month. The school also hosted  DISHA 2022 -The All India Conference For Science Teachers organised by Bhavan’s Research and Development Centre in association with Azim Premji University, Bangalore for teachers of Bhavan’s Schools across India and the Middle East from 13 -15 October 2022.

Academic Achievements

“Academic excellence is a seal of approval of any good institution”. In Std X, out of the 205 students who appeared for SSE 2021-2022, 185 students secured distinction and 38 students secured A1 in all subjects. Navami Nair emerged the school topper with 99.6%.

In Std XII, of the 201 students who appeared for the SSCE 2021-2022, 164 secured distinction and 40 students secured A1 in all subjects. Sreelakshmy AJ the Science topper secured 99.4%, Anamika Devi K and Kalyani Menon topped the Commerce stream with 98.6% and the toppers of the Humanities stream were  Priyamvada R and Anamika Bose who secured 98.4%.The credit for this outstanding achievement goes to the tireless efforts of the teachers, students and dedicated parent community.PRATHEEKSHA FANTASIA 2022- The Annual Inter-school Fest organised by students of Std XI was held on 16 July.

     SCHOOL ACHIEVEMENTS

The Interact Club of Bhavans Vidya Mandir Elamakkara was awarded the Rotary Citation for helping Rotary serve to change the lives of people all around the world.

In the Mathrubhumi SEED Awards 2021-2022, our school bagged the Sreshta Haritha Vidyalayam award ( a cash prize worth Rs 25,000/-) at the district level for the 2nd consecutive year. The school also won the Arogya Suraksha Puraskaram (worth Rs 2000/-) and consolation prize for Season Watch.

 BHAVANS FEST 2022-In the 24th All Kerala Bhavans Cultural Fest 2022 held for category IV and V at Bhavan’s Munshi Vidyashram on 19th of November 2022, our school  bagged the overall championship for category IV and first runner up for category V. Revathi Narayanan won the coveted title “Bhavan's Jyothi’ in Category V.

Our school won the overall trophy at 2 Interschool fests namely  Srushti 2022 and  ‘Technologia Retrogradus’ conducted by Bhavan’s Munshi Vidyashram & Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Girinagar respectively.

Achievements of Teachers

Smt Bhavya Madhu of the Department of English, won the first position in the ‘Yuvashaktheekaran’ competition held in connection with the Teacher's conclave, Vidyajwala conducted by Vidyodaya School.

Smt Susheela Gopinathan, our yoga teacher received the first prize in the Veteran Women’s category  in the 7th Yoga Sports championship  and she has also cleared the examination to officiate as a judge for Yoga competitions at the national level.

3 of our teachers Smt Deepa A Nair , Smt Bindu K and Smt Jayasree Nair, were placed among the top 30 percentile in the international Teachers’ Olympiad.

Our Biology teacher Smt. Tessy John, won the best teacher coordinator award for Mathrubhumi Seed Awards 2021-2022.

Smt Rashmi P Raju of the department of Physics , Smt Lekshmi Sankar of the department of Biology, secured the second and the third position respectively in the - ‘Toy pedagogy and Joyful Learning' category and Smt Gopika Gopalakrishnan of the department of English received the third place in the category ‘Sustainable Development Goals’ at the ‘Abhiruchi Teachers Conclave’ competition, organised by Bhavan’s Research and Development Centre. Rashmi P Raju also won the 3rd prize in the 3rd edition of  ‘Why so curious’ Teachers’ National level quiz

Student Achievements

Krishna Somnath Bhat was the recipient of the prestigious Ujwala Balya Puraskaram , instituted by the Dept of Women & Child Development,  Govt of Kerala

In the 8th edition of Dr.Pradeep P Thevannoor Hackathon  organised by  the SCMS School of Engineering  and Technology, the team comprising the trio of Lal Krishna S, Abhishek U Pai  & Raghav S Hegde won the first prize for their project on ‘Domestic Waste Management’ which in turn fetched them a cash prize of Rs 30000/-apart from certificates & trophies.

Our school team comprising Devabala Padmakumar, Manjunath Menon, Keerthi Manjit, and Rohith Ramesh won the overall Championship at the CBSE Regional Adoloscent Summit held at Amritha Vidyalya in December 2022.

In the CBSE Reading Challenge, held in Dec 2022, Parthiv Nair was one of the winners of the Thiruvananthapuram region

Pranav K. Manoj of X E secured the first rank in the State-level competition - Swara Poorna (Mridangam) conducted by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi Kendra

In the Bhavan’s Scholarship exam held in 2022, Nandini M Prakash, Soorya Neeraj and Rishab Vinod secured the first rank. Karthik A Bejoy, Nandakishore S, Sunand P Menon & Raghav S Hegde secured the 2nd rank and many others performed commendably.

In the English Olympiad conducted by SOF – Adwaith M Pai & Sarang LV secured the first rank in at the International level and Nandini M Prakash secured the First rank at the State level in the Informatics Olympiad conducted by Silver zone.

Rishabh Vinod participated in the national level camp of Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan -India’s largest Science Talent Search for New India using digital devices held by NCERT at IIT Bhubaneshwar in May 2022.

Adrija Raj, Gayathri Arun, Adriel Malcolm, Nidhi R Nair, Adarsh Saju and B Advaith were the recipients of prizes at interschool fests organised by Assisi Vidya Niketan School, Rajagiri school and Bhavan’s Girinagar

 ACHIEVEMENTS IN QUIZ AND MUN

The school has a vibrant  quizzing culture thanks to the enthusiastic quizzers and one of the most notable  quizzers of our school is Aman B Manoj who won the VG Siddhartha Memorial quiz conducted by Amber Valley School Chikmaglur which earned him an ipad and a cash prize of Rs1,00,000/- The other major prizes won by him include second prize for the 2nd consecutive year in the Mrs. YGP Memorial National level Inter School Quiz Competition conducted jointly by Padma Seshadri Bal Bhavan Group of Schools Chennai & tcs ioN & First Prize in the Campion Sports Quiz conducted by Campion School and 1st in the quiz conducted by Rotary club. He also secured the first Rank at the International GK Olympiad.

Aman Manoj and his team mate Harith Mohan have also been selected for the ‘Ultimate Sports Quiz’ to be conducted by Harsha Bhogle, in Jaipur later this year. They also secured the first prize in the Zonal level Inter School Quiz Competitions conducted by Kerala Forest & Wildlife Department, the November Rain quiz conducted by Kottayam Round Table 79, the Inter school Quiz Competition by SBI RBO II (Panampilly Nagar Cluster) & 2nd prize at the quiz conducted by the Mar Basil group of institutions as part of their Tech Olympiad & the All Kerala Inter School MKK Nair Quiz conducted by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi Kendra.

Harith Mohan bagged the second prize for the Inter-High School India Quiz competition in connection with the Gandhi Jayanthi celebrations organised by District Information and Public Relations Department and along with team mate Akshay, he also bagged the 2nd prize in the Purana quiz conducted by ISKCON

Aman Manoj and Sarang LV bagged the first position in the ‘Mind Wars Quiz’ conducted by ZEE TV & the second prize in the 21st District Level Quiz Competition organised by Central Bureau of Communication Jawahar Library & Youth club, Kadamattom . They were also selected for the quarter-finals of the Asianet Whizkid 2022.Another major prize won for quiz was by Kashinath Menon who secured the 2nd position at the All Kerala Inter School Quiz conducted  by VSSC as part of the World Space WEEK 2022.

Abhisehk P and Amit Krishna secured the third prize for the inter-school quiz conducted by Bhavan’s Adarsha Vidyalaya, Kakkanad .

Sree Rasya G secured the first rank in the 7th National level Sanskrit Olympiad

Niya Shine  won the second position in the Astrophile Space Quiz organised by the Kozhikode based UL Space Club at CUSAT

Keerthi Manjit and Rhea Ann Roy , won the third position in ‘Orateur Eloquent’ conducted by Toc H Public School

Dheeraj Nambiar , Ila Lakshmi Sharma and Sreehari  won the first, second and third prize respectively in the  Third Philately Quiz conducted by the Postal Department for students of Std VI-X.

9 of our students participated in the HMUN conference held at Hyderabad in August 2022 and at the CUSAT MUN held last week Harishankar Madhu & Aswin Kumar received a honourable mention & verbal mention respectively.            

ACHIEVEMENTS IN SPORTS AND GAMES

FOOTBALL

It was a memorable year for the school football team which went on to win  4  Interschool tournaments organised by MGM Public School Kandanad, Marello Public School Njarakkal, Chavara Darsan CMI Public school, Koonammavu and the 21st RSC All Kerala CBSE Inter School Football Championship and they secured the second runner up position in the MAI inter school Football tournament organised by MA international school Kothamangalam

Akshath Shinod of Std III E represented the Ganador team which won the Rondos Baby League 5s football tournament, held at Thrissur.

Badminton

The school badminton boys team comprising Azam Aydin Mohamed  & Joe Francis Gipson and the Girls team represented by Navika Sreekumar & Lakshmi Suchith won many interschool tournaments, the most notable amongst them being the ones organised  by Assisi Vidyaniketan Public school & Choice Public School . Lakshmi Suchith and Joe Francis also got the awards for best players of the Choice cup tournament . The girls team won a cash prize of Rs 10,000/- at the tournament conducted by M A school Kothamangalam and the boys team won the 3rd position.

In the 49th Ernakulam District Badminton Championship 2022, Lakshmi Suchith  won the under 19  mixed doubles . Sabari Prashanth emerged the winner in the boys singles U 13 category. The boys team of  Jovin & Nandan B Nair secured the 1st prize in the under 13  boys doubles category

Navika Sreekumar won the 1st runner up in Mixed doubles and 2nd runner up in the under 19 yrs girls category She has also secured the first prize in U17 girls  in All Kerala Junior badminton tournament and 2nd runner up in women (All Kerala senior ranking tournament) at Ottapalam organised by KBSA.

In the All Kerala sub. Jr Badminton championship conducted by KBSA Nandan B Nair secured the 3rd position in the under 13 yrs boys singles & Jovin Sojan  secured the 3rd position in the under 13 yrs boys doubles.

Nidhi B Nair was a member of the girls under 9 yrs doubles team which emerged winners in the All Kerala Shuttle Badminton Tournament, conducted by Cochin Sewa Sangh.

Tennis

The brother duo of Shrikanth C Menon & Srinath C Menon did themselves and the school proud by winning an array of prizes in the Tennis circuit. The prizes won by Shrikanth include first prize in the Under 16 boys singles and 2nd prize in Under 18 boys singles in the Ernakulam district Tennis Championship, the runner's up position in singles at the All India Ranking under 14 Boys Championship Series Tennis tournament at  Bangalore, the Under 16  boys Championship Title (singles winner) in the  Sree Chithira Kerala State Tennis Championship. Shrinath C Menon won the runner up position in the Under 14 boys singles in the Ernakulam district Tennis Championship. The brother duo also won the runner's up position in boys doubles in the All India Ranking Under 16 Talent Series Tennis tournament held  at the Trivandrum Tennis Club.

They also won the Inter-District Tennis tournament in boys doubles in the under 14 and under 16 categories respectively and  the Under 16 boys doubles in the Sree Chithira Kerala State Tennis  Championship conducted at Kinattingal Tennis Academy, Trichur. Our school tennis team emerged winners in the above 14 years boys category in the RSC Inter School  Prize Money Tennis Championship

Chess

The school chess team secured the Overall runners up in the Inter School Chess League which was conducted by BVM Eroor in association with Eight Times Eight Chess academy and the RSC inter school prize money Chess tournament org. by Regional Sports Centre Kadavanthra.

In the Inter school Chess Championship conducted by Kasturba School, Advik Praveen won the first position in the LP section and Adwaith Praveen won the 2nd position in the High School Section
and at the Don Bosco Inter School Chess tournament , Advik won the 3rd position and Adwaith bagged the 2nd position in their respective categories.

School chess tournament LP section .

Swimming

Akshay Ginil secured 1st & 2nd position in 50 M & 100 M surface swimming respectively in the Kerala State Championship organised by the Kerala Underwater Sports Association. He won the 2nd prize in 50 M Backstroke & the Butterflystroke event  at the Inter School Swimming competition 2022 conducted by Global Public School.

Basketball

Our school Boys Basketball team secured second prize in Toc H centenary Cup Inter School Junior basketball tournament organised by Toc H Public school .

Athletics

Naethan Verghese John, the most promising athlete of the school represented Kerala and secured the 5th position in High Jump in the under 14 boys category at the 37th Junior Athletic championships 2022 conducted by Athletic federation of India at Guwahati (Assam). The other First prizes won by him in high Jump are at the Kerala State Junior Athletic meet, Kozhikode, the  Ernakulam District Athletic Meet & M A Athletic Meet hosted by Mar Athanasius College of Engineering - Kothamangalam. He also won the first place in the 60 M race at the Ernakulam Dist Athletic meet and the 2nd place in 100 mts at both the Mar Athanasius Athletic meet & and the CBSE cluster XI Inter School Aquatic meet 2022  held at Toc H Public school Vyttila.

3 of our athletes won the First prize at the Ernakulam District Athletic Meet 2022 held at MA college ground, Kothamangalam namely Maria Alphonsa in Ball throw under 14 girls category, Sanjana S in high jump in the under 10  girls & Vaiga Shijith  in Shot put in the  under 10 girls category and Emin Sinto secured second prize in high jump in under 18  boys category

The  kids athletic team secured second runners up in the level 3 girls category in the Kerala state Kids Athletics championship at St. Peter's College Indoor stadium Kolencherry  org. by Ernakulam District Athletic Association & Kerala State Athletic Association*.

Kho kho

Devavrath was selected to represent the Ernakulam dist team for the State Sub Junior Kho Kho championship which was held at Ramanattukara, Kozhikode .

Nikitha B won the bronze medal in the individual TUL event conducted in the South and West Taekwondo ITF championship.

Punya Arun won first place in the JSKA Kozhikode District level School Karate championship 2022 and received the yellow belt.

ACHIEVEMENTS IN YOGA

Gowri Shankari Pillai represented India and won the 2nd Prize (Traditional Yoga) at the XII Asian Yogasana Sports Championship held at Pattaya, Thailand in September 2022.

Gamaya Srinivasan  was one of the participants who represented Kerala at the National Yoga Championships held at Bhubaneswar. She was felicitated at the Lakshmibai National College of Physical Education at Thiruvananthapuram, on the occasion of the 8th International Yoga Day on 21st June 2022.

Our school team won the ever rolling trophy at the 41st Ernakulam Dist Yogasana Championship and participated in the Nationals held at Pondicherry where our students Sumisha S Pai                                               figured amongst those who secured the first 10 positions.

Many of our students won a number of  prizes at  the 7th Yoga Sports Championship organised by the Ernakulam District Yoga Association

In the Patanjali District Yoga Championship held at Saraswathi Vidyaniketan, the school secured the prize for maximum and best participation and the following students bagged various prizes:

  1. Sub junior category: Indrajith S Kammath - 1st prize
  2. Junior Girls Category: Deepika Pramod     - 2nd prize
  3. Junior Boys Category: Suvid Prajeesh        - 2nd prize and Anugrah S - 3rd prize
  4. Senior Girls Category: Hussna Kareem       - 1st prize

COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMMES

 Members of the Seed club participated enthusiastically in planting coconut saplings near the Nayarambalam temple with the help of "Grassroot" , an organisation dedicated to protection of the environment.

During Gandhi Jayanthi the Seed Club members took part in the ‘Clean Your Surroundings’ initiative where they cleaned their immediate surroundings.

 The Seed Club also organised a cycle rally with the slogan  ‘Say No to Drugs’ and enacted a street play at Devankulangara to raise awareness against the dangerous menace of substance abuse .The inauguration of ‘Bicycle brigade, a programme launched by Mayor Adv. Anil Kumar to promote the use of bycycles was held in our institution on 3rd of June. On the occasion , the  school contributed a significant amount from the school’s ‘seal a desire’ box and from the proceeds of the sale organised by the Nature and SEED club to the Mayor’s ‘Subiksha food initiative’ to provide good quality food at a reasonable price for the poor.

 ‘Snehadaram’ was a unique programme arranged to honour the yeomen service rendered by the school’s support staff was held just before the school closed for the Onam vacation.

BEOSA

 ‘Thirike ‘ the first official get together of the Bhavan’s Elamakkara Old students association was held on 19 June 2022 and was attended by a large turnout of alumni. Justice Devan Ramachandran of the high court of Kerala and a student of the school’s first batch inaugurated the event. A vibrant bond is maintained between the school and BEOSA as was evident at the Football match between the BEOSA team and the school team.

 DEVELOPING ONE’ S PROWESS

 Attending workshops is like giving a novel possibility to learn something new and the objective of all our Seminars and Workshops is to provide participants with simple yet powerful strategies and skills that may be used to enhance the teaching-learning techniques .It enables the teachers to be more productive and innovative in their offline modes of teaching.

 Principal Smt Mini K attended the All India Conference for Principals held at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan  Vidyashram , Munshi Marg Jaipur . 

Associate Principal Smt Sreejyothi N attended Leadership 4.0 - a retreat for high potential school leaders - a 3 day workshop organised by IIM - K at their campus in Kozhikode), CBSE Prospective Resource Person Workshop on NEP, at BMV, Thiruvamkulam & CCSK Delegate Meet on ‘Aligning to the Emerging Trends in School Education.

 Likewise Teachers of all the departments attended workshops to sharpen their subject knowledge and professional skills. 

Enrichment Activities for holistic development

 The Annual Comprehensive Evaluation of the school was carried out on       &. by the team of educationists from Shikshan Bharati - the education wing of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, led by the school’s education officer Smt Sukumari Menon .

All important occasions like the founder’s day, Environment day, Independence day, Onam, Ramayana week, World Blood Donor’s day, Teachers’ day Navarathri, Deepavali, Id , Christmas, Sanskrit day , Hindi Diwas etc were observed & celebrated in a befitting manner.

 ‘Prathibhotsav ‘ - Talentime was conducted for Std I -V on 5 separate days and this was a platform for all students to showcase their talent and the success of the concept was largely due to the initiative & enthusiasm of the parent community .

  ‘Ezhuthu Petti', an initiative mooted by the Akshara Public Library, Perandoor  aimed at promoting the reading habit in children was inaugurated on 7th July.

 In order to provide refreshing experiences to our primary school students, 2 workshops were conducted. ‘Craftober’ the workshop aimed at honing their skills at craft work, was a resounding success . Likewise, ‘Math Magic sessions  conducted to arouse an enthusiastic fervour for  Maths, was enjoyed by all students.
The Interact Week celebrated by the Interact club was replete with thought provoking & fun filled activities. The Club also took the lead in celebrating the ‘Library week‘ by initiating a host of activities that included poetry sessions, literature quiz, debates and role play.

 A patriotic drama titled ‘ Vande Mataram ‘ by the Apple cart  theatre group was staged at school.Kerala Piravi day celebrations at school were embellished with the staging of an Ottanthullan performance. The world food day was celebrated by organising food festivals in select cases.

In an earnest attempt to acquaint the younger generation with the rich cultural & artistic fabric of our nation, ‘Thullal Thrayam', an experimental choreography combining three forms of Thullal ( Ottan, Sheethankan and Parayan ) jointly organized by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi and Infosys Foundation was staged at the school.
As envisioned in the NEP 2020 , strengthening of literacy and numeracy skills is high on the school’s priority list and 2 programmes namely ‘ English Matters‘ and ‘Ganitha Mithram’ have been conceived to serve this great requirement. Currently it has been implemented for class 3 students who have been identified as those in need of some additional hand holding to bring them up to the desired level.

 MOTIVATIONAL TALKS AND SESSIONS

In order to facilitate the holistic development of children of all classes, various health and wellness webinars, awareness sessions, motivational talks etc, were arranged during the academic year. A handful of subject specific webinars and career guidance sessions were also arranged for the students of senior secondary.

 Seminars on topics like Health & hygiene, ‘Use heart to protect your heart’, Career guidance courses for senior students were conducted.The PTA organised 2 sessions on parenting by renowned psychologists

INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT

Building constructions and renovations

School renovation and restructuring are important for creating a contemporary infrastructure that meets the needs of upgraded pedagogy. Reshaping the learning spaces and making the construction futuristic adds value to a student’s life.

The construction of lifts in the Munshi Block which leads to the auditorium and the one in the Sree Sankara Block has been completed . Construction of two new buildings with 28 classrooms, is on the anvil.

All the classrooms in the school are equipped with the state of the art interactive panels and is provided with Internet facility.
